The Canal+ group announced, Thursday, December 5, the withdrawal, from June 2025, of its four pay channels on DTT (Canal+, Canal+ Cinéma, Canal+ Sport, Planète), in reaction in particular to the non-renewal of the frequency of C8.
“Drawing the consequences of the withdrawal of the C8 channel, the first DTT channel, by Arcom and an increasingly restrictive tax and regulatory environment for the group in France, Canal+ announces the withdrawal of its pay channels from the TNT »according to a press release from the group.
In addition to the fate of C8, Canal+ calls into question a “increase in tax paid to the CNC”, the National Center for Cinema and Animated Images, and “threats to its VAT rate, which is directly linked to its status as the leading financier of French cinema” – as much, according to the press release, “penalizing tax and regulatory decisions”.
According to this document, customers still dependent on DTT will be offered “the necessary equipment so that they can continue to benefit from all of the programs on their channels on other broadcast modes”.
