The Hauts- regionwill de-France have many ministers in the Bayrou government? The composition on which the new Prime Minister has been working with difficulty since December 13 has still not been communicated. It could contain several political figures from the Region. A list that leaked to several media outlets at the start of the week gives some clues.
After a two-year post as Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin once again became a deputy for the 10th constituency of the North in September. His name is circulating for the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs which would allow him to gain stature before the 2027 presidential election in which he would consider running.
Born in Valenciennes in 1982, Gérald Darmanin studied at the IEP in Lille. Elected LR deputy from the North in 2012, he resigned in 2016 following the law on the accumulation of mandates, to maintain his position as vice-president of the Hauts-de-France regional council. In 2017, he joined La République en Marche (LREM). He was elected mayor of Tourcoing twice: in 2014 and in 2020.
In October 2024, Gérald Darmanin also announced the creation of his movement, “Populaires”. “A place of reflection to find new ideas and bring them into public debate”, which is not a political party.
The deputy for the sixth constituency of the North, Charlotte Parmentier-Lecocq, could retain her position as Secretary of State responsible for people with disabilities, obtained in September in the Michel Barnier government.
Charlotte Parmentier, 47, grew up in Avesnes-sur-Helpe then in Maubeuge. Holder of a master's degree in social sciences and management from the Institute of Business Administration of the University of Lille, she has worked in the world of entrepreneurship.
In 2017, she was elected deputy in the sixth constituency of the North under the LREM label. Then re-elected in 2022 and 2024. In 2021, she was elected departmental councilor for the North in the canton of Templeuve-en-Pévèle.
Charlotte Parmentier joins Édouard Philippe's Horizons party in September 2024.
Valérie Létard, born in Orchies, is a member of the UDI. She is the resigning Minister of Housing and Urban Renewal in the Barnier government and could retain this decisive portfolio, as this sector is going through an unprecedented crisis. She was twice Secretary of State under François Fillon and Nicolas Sarkozy, occupying positions dedicated to Solidarity and Green Technologies. She was also president of the Valenciennes Métropole urban community from 2008 to 2016.
She was elected deputy for the 21st constituency of the North in July 2024, this constituency where Jean-Louis Borloo, to whom she is close, was elected five times. She was a senator from the North from 2010 to 2023 and vice president of the High Assembly from 2017 to 2023.
Often anticipated, never named, will Violette Spillebout, 52 years old, Member of Parliament for the 9th constituency of the North, be part of the Bayrou government?
Daughter of teachers, graduate in business management, she worked for an audit firm and for the SNCF. From 2008 to 2012, Violette Spillebout was chief of staff to the mayor of Lille, Martine Aubry. She has since left the Socialist Party, joining La République En Marche (LREM) in 2016. She was elected deputy in 2022.
In Lille, now Martine Aubry's rival, Violette Spillebout announced a few months ago that she would be a candidate for mayor in 2026 – despite a first failure in 2020: she received 20.6% of the votes in the second round.
Born in Châlons-en-Champagne, Xavier Bertrand is now 59 years old. A graduate in public law and local administration, he worked for 12 years in insurance for the Swiss Life group. First general councilor of Aisne between 1998 and 2002, he was elected deputy in the second constituency of the department several times between 2002 and 2012.
From 2005 to 2007, he was Minister of Health and Solidarity in the government of Dominique de Villepin. Then, between 2007 and 2009 and between 2010 and 2012, he became Minister of Labor under the governments of François Fillon.
At the local level, he was mayor of Saint-Quentin from 2010 to 2016. Since 2016, he has been President of the Hauts-de-France regional council. Recently, he was tipped to become Prime Minister before the appointment of Michel Barnier. His name is mentioned, but, interviewed on Wednesday December 18, 2024 by France 3 Hauts-de-France, Xavier Bertrand denies a return to the government.
Minister of Ecological Transition, Energy, Climate and Risk Prevention, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, former deputy for the 2nd constituency of Pas-de-Calais, is not in the unofficial list which circulated in start of the week. However, she has been part of all governments since the election of Emmanuel Macron in 2017.
Same question for Paul Christophe, the former mayor of Zuydcoote, who entered government for the first time last September, as Minister of Solidarity, Autonomy and Equality between Women and Men.
