Launched in November 2024, the French series Cat’s Eyes is obviously an adaptation of the eponymous manga by Tsukasa Hōjō. The famous mangaka gave his opinion on the result.
Cat’s Eyes: the mangaka validates the work of TF1
Nostalgia for the 1980s and 1990s hits fans of Japanese animation hard. While we discover new episodes of animated series every week Dragon Ball DAIMA from Toei Animation and Ranma 1/2 you studio MAPPA, hovering above our heads a real feeling of reunion with the Club Dorothée. Indeed, Dragon Ball et Ranma 1/2 were among the hits of the most famous children’s show on the French small screen. IWe must also count on the French series in live action Cat’s Eyesnew adaptation of the eponymous manga by Tsukasa Hōjō after the animated series Signé Cat’s Eyes broadcast on FR3 since 1986.
Produced in collaboration with Prime Video and broadcast on TF1 since November 6, 2024, the series Cat’s Eyes is created by Michel Catz and worn by actresses Camille Lou, Constance Labbé and Claire Romain. The series, which transposes the adventures of the Chamade sisters (Kisugi, in Japanese) into the Paris of 2024, has divided critics and spectators. THowever, it has quite enviable audiences, especially among 25-49 year olds. A nice success for TF1, therefore, which reminds us how much the works of Tsukasa Hōjō are appreciated in our country. Remember that in 2019, the film Nicky Larson and the Scent of Cupid by Philippe Lacheau had garnered much praise, despite initial suspicions following the release of the trailer.
In the press kit prepared by TF1, we learn that Tsukasa Hōjō was present at every stage of the series’ creation. He had issued some conditions which had to be respected, in particular with regard to respecting the personality of the three burglar sisters. IIn the end it seems that the famous mangaka is very happy with the result :
It is not by trying to stick to a drawn image or a manga that we manage to transcribe something accurate. You should not try to make a direct link, but on the contrary find your own identity to reach people. In this case, I think this series succeeded in doing that perfectly.
We recall that Tsukasa Hōjō also greatly appreciated the work of Philippe Lacheau for the film Nicky Larson and the Scent of Cupid. Invited to Comic Con Paris, he declared: “Philippe Lacheau absolutely did not betray my expectations. He took the entire work to construct his scenario.“A feeling also shared by fans of Nicky Larson et du manga City Hunterwho applauded the actor-director’s immense respect for the original work.
At any rate, the success of the French series Cat’s Eyes confirms the immense power of appeal that the works of Tsukasa Hōjō continue to exert. We also remind you that a new Japanese animated series Cat’s Eye will be released in 2025. This new anime made official by Disney+ Japan has joined our selection of the most anticipated Japanese animated series of the coming year.
