From season 2 of House of the Dragon has The Penguinthrough the mini-series The Sympathizer – written and partly directed by Park Chan-wook -, True Detective: Night Country et Dune: Prophecythe HBO cable channel, owned by the Warner Bros. group. Discovery, has spoiled serivores with series of great intensity. And the program for 2025 should be just as rich!
#1 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
After the conclusion of Game of Thrones in 2019, HBO decided to continue to explore the fantasy universe developed by American writer George RR Martin. The immense success of House of the Dragon in 2022 convinced the cable channel to continue on this path. In 2025, fans will be able to discover the first season ofA Knight of the Seven Kingdomswhich adapts The Chronicles of the Knight Errant. Starring Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell in the roles of Ser Duncan The Great and The Egg, the first season will consist of six episodes. This very promising new series will, however, differ in its tone from the two previous ones. : focused on the adventures of a beginner knight-errant, it will be less centered on the political intrigues between the different houses of Westeros, even if the breath of the Blackfyre rebellions will be felt in the background. George RR Martin has several times been very enthusiastic about this new series taking place in the universe of Game of Thrones. We can't wait!
#2 The Last of Us (saison 2)
Taking into account the immense success of season 1 of The Last of UsHBO has renewed the show for a second season, obviously highly anticipated. Still developed by Neil Druckmann – the director of the Naughty Dog license – and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), this second season will adapt part of The Last of Us Part. II. Darker and more violent than the first season, this new batch of episodes will see our favorite characters confronted with choices they made during season 1. Season 2 of The Last of Us will also see new factions clash in a bloody war: the WLF and the Seraphites. After the release of an exciting first trailer, the head of HBO recently announced that the launch of season 2 was planned for spring 2025.
#3 Peacemaker (saison 2)
Following the immense success of its first season, the series Peacemaker has been renewed for a second season. Director and writer James Gunn, since appointed to head DC Studios to develop a new DC Cinematic Universe, shared a lot of information during the conception of season 2 of Peacemakerfor which he is once again responsible for writing the script and directing one or more episodes. The spin-off series The Suicide Squad was included in HBO's schedule for 2025. The boss of the channel has also affirmed that the eight episodes of season 2 will arrive next August.
#4 It: Welcome to Derry
The terrifying universe of That will return in 2025, to the delight of horror and Stephen King fans. Marking the return of actor Bill SkarsgÄ rd in the role of Pennywise, which he played in Andy Muschietty's diptych, the series will plunge us into the 1960s, twenty years before the events of Thatto tell us the mysterious origins of the most terrifying clown in pop culture. Four children living near Derry military base will face the disappearance of one of their friends and will go looking for him. This will be the beginning of a terrible descent into horror. Developed by Andy Muschietty, the series will have nine episodes, expected in 2025. We're shuddering in anticipation!
#5 The White Lotus (saison 3)
Launched in 2021, the series The White Lotus immediately found immense success on HBO, winning a large number of awards. Racontant the adventures of hotel guests and the various problems they encounter during their eventful vacationthis black comedy developed by Mike White sets down in Thailand, after Hawaii and Sicily, with once again an exceptional castincluding Leslie Bibb (Iron Man), Carrie Coon (Gone Girl, The Leftovers), Michelle Monaghan (True Detective), Walton Goggins (Django Unchained, Fallout) et Scott Glenn (The Silence of the Lambs, The Leftovers). We can't wait!
#6 The Gilded Age (saison 3)
Acclaimed for the immense series Downton Abbeythe British screenwriter Julian Fellowes returned to HBO in 2022 with a new series : The Gilded Age. Exit the old English aristocracy, this time it's the turn of the New York millionaires of the late 19th century. Praised for its sets and costumes, the series was a great success and was renewed for two additional seasons. After two years of absence, The Gilded Age will therefore return in 2025 with an already highly anticipated season 3.
#7 Task
Brad Ingelsby, the acclaimed showrunner of Mare of Easttownreturns in 2025 with a brand new series: Task. Staging Mark Ruffalo as an FBI agent leading a task force operating in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia. We don't know much yet about this series announced for 2025, except that it will take place in the same “monde“that Mare of Easttown. We're hoping for a very intense detective series!
