In this age of all-powerful streaming platforms, it is difficult to stay up to date with the incessant launches of new series or their sequels. Here are the 5 fictions not to be missed under any circumstances in December.
Star Wars : The Skeleton Crew – 4 décembre
“Skeleton Crew” will see Jude Law join the Star Wars galaxy in this anticipated series on Disney+. The 51-year-old British actor will play Jod Na Nawood, a Jedi living on the outskirts of society. His destiny will find himself mixed with that of a group of children who, while they lead a peaceful existence, will see their existence turned upside down by the discovery of an abandoned Jedi temple lost in the forest, where lie secrets that are of interest to malicious individuals.
Together, they will embark on an adventure much greater than they could have imagined. Note that the series takes place before the events of the series “Ahsoka”, and after those of the film “Return of the Jedi”. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the directors of “Everything Everywhere All At Once”, a multi-awarded film at the 2023 Oscars, are in charge of directing.
Creature Commandos – December 5
It is on MAX that viewers will discover the seven episodes of this animated series which will forever remain the first production of DC Studios under the supervision of James Gunn, in charge of launching the first chapter of the DCU (DC Cinematic Universe) called “ Gods and Monsters.
The story follows the events of “The Suicide Squad” and the spin-off series “Peacemaker”, and will follow the clandestine missions of a team of monstrous prisoners from the DC Comics universe assembled by Amanda Waller, and placed under the orders of John Economos. Viola Davis, David Harbour, Sean Gunn, Frank Grillo, Zoe Chao, Indira Warma complete the cast.
Behind the facade – December 12
Expected on Netflix, “Behind the Facade” – created by Liz Feldman, the creator of “Dead to Me” – allows us to find Lisa Kudrow (Friends) in a comedy that will make your teeth cringe. She plays Lydia, a woman who, with her husband Paul, has just put up for sale their magnificent 1920s Spanish-style villa, in a popular area of Los Angeles.
Three families jump at the opportunity, and convince themselves that this house will be the solution to all their problems. They compete with each other to guarantee their purchase. For Lydia and Paul, this house hides family secrets that they will be forced to confront to free themselves from their past. Not without creating collateral damage. Also starring Ray Romano, Linda Cardellini, OT Fagbenle, Abbi Jacobson, and Denis Leary.
Dexter: Original Sin – December 13
The series “Dexter: Original Sin”, launched on the American channel Showtime – and soon on CANAL + – will serve as a prequel to the original fiction with Michael C. Hall, following the youth of Dexter at the time when his adoptive father, Inspector Harry Morgan sets out to teach him the “Code”, a series of rules to respect so that he can satisfy his murderous urges without being caught by the police.
Viewers will discover Patrick Gibson in the skin of the main character. Christian Slater will play the role of Harry Morgan. Actress Molly Brown will play Debra Morgan, Dexter's sister played by Jennifer Carpenter in the original series. James Martinez will be Angel Batista, while Alex Shimizu will be Vince Mazuka. Christina Milian, the companion of singer M. Pokora, will play Maria LaGuerta. Note that Michael C. Hall will provide the voice-over in the original version. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Patrick Dempsey complete the cast.
Squid Game, season 2 – December 26
Three years after the tidal wave of season 1 on Netflix, “Squid Game” will make its return during the end-of-year holidays with a second chapter which will see the character of Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae , back in the deadly game from which he was the only one to survive.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of the series, confirmed that season 2 will focus on Gi-hun's quest for revenge, and that his face-to-face with the Front Man promises to be terrible, with a conclusion definitive of the story planned in a season 3 expected at the end of 2025.
