Le Journal visited the set of the next illico+ series “The Last of the Monsters” with Luc Picard

On the film set of Last of the monstersa detective sergeant and a patrolman discuss a mysterious case in a somewhat dark police station. It’s about murders, the search for clues and murderers on the loose. There is no denying that the new series which will star Luc Picard promises to be mysterious and exciting.

Behind his two large screens, director Adam Kosh views the images just shot, giving directions to the two actors taking part in this office scene. They are Arianne Castellanos (playing Detective Sergeant Maya Merida) and Irdens Exantus (who transforms into a young patrolman full of potential, Joseph Lucien).

Met after the recording of the short scene, Luc Picard has only good words for the director, Adam Kosh, and the plot of this police thriller which will be divided into six one-hour episodes.

The 63-year-old actor plays Detective Sergeant David Savard who will have to solve, with the help of Detective Sergeant Merida, the murders of three young lawyers by interpreting the mysterious symbols with religious connotations left at the scene.

He portrays his character as the archetype of the tired police officer, a go-getter and a little reckless in dangerous situations. A “fun to play” action guy in a series that has “touches of humor and a certain candor”, despite the seriousness of the crimes and the macabre moments.

“The filming went really well. Director Adam Kosh was well prepared and very pleasant. He manages his stress well, is attentive and efficient. I really like his work. In fact, he’s a big part of why I said yes to the project,” explains the actor also known for his directorial talents.

“It’s a cool plot! It is a universe of religious symbols and sects; things that we have rarely done on Quebec television,” continues the actor who has often played police officers, notably in the series Omerta et District 31.

Touches of light

For his part, actor Benoit Drouin-Germain (Before cash) evokes a fairly dark, intriguing, surprising and captivating police thriller to which his intellectual character brings touches of light.

“Thomas studied theology and his police friend asks him for a hand with his expertise. He’s excited, but he finds himself in an environment he doesn’t know. He brings a beautiful naivety to the series,” he explains.

For the record, several extras in the series are retired police officers who are sometimes called upon to advise actors playing members of law enforcement.

The six-episode series The last of the monsters will be broadcast in spring 2025 on illico+. It also stars Marie- Marcotte, Annick Bergeron and Alex Bisping.
