Following the end of his mandate at Salut Bonjour and the publication of his life story 3800 morningsnow a bestseller, we had the pleasure of speaking with the friendly Gino Chouinard, who then testified to the public’s goodwill towards him.
Since his departure from the morning daily, the host has been wished “happy retirement” dozens of times a day, even though he is not yet at this stage of his life. Instead, he takes a well-deserved break before embarking on a new challenge.
When approaching the meetings with the public, Gino was kind enough to tell us a moving anecdote in this regard.
« I went out to Place des Arts for a show a few weeks ago. There was a girl running into the entrance to the Place des Arts venue. I left the Fifth Room and headed towards the Maison symphonique. It’s quite a long corridor. There were heels coming. “Mr. Gino, Mr. Gino!” I turn around. The lady explains to me that she is an immigrant and that she learned French by listening to Salut, bonjour. She has tears in her eyes », he explains straight away.
« She told me, “For weeks, I didn’t understand anything.” She is of Mexican origin. “I understood one word, two words, three words. I kept going. I can’t believe I’m seeing you today.” »
The host then took the time to give him a hug, as well as photos with his friends who accompanied him.
He tells us: “ It’s touching to have an impact in people’s lives. She had targeted Hello, hello because she said “I felt good listening to you”. It’s nice. It gave me chills. I had tears in my eyes and I said to myself “well let’s see, what just happened?” »
This is a direct and touching testimony on the impact of a daily program like Hi Hello on the lives of viewers.
Note that the book 3800 matins by Gino Chouinard is available now in all good bookstores.
