Without Dax and Mont-de-Marsan
As Sud-Ouest revealed to you, the towns of Dax and Mont-de-Marsan (winners on several occasions in previous editions) are saying “no” to participating in Intervilles without the presence of cows. Winner of the first edition in 1962, the city of Dax issues a categorical no. “Participating would amount to endorsing the reason they put forward, namely that they would be suffering,” its mayor Julien Dubois told us.
When we talk about this show, memories spanning several generations arise. This is where a Landais resident, Sébastien Cazaubon, decided to launch an online petition to oppose this return in this form. Understand without the cows. “It marked our childhood”, comments this resident of Labouheyre to our Landes editorial staff “I am well aware that our country is going through complex periods, with much more serious and urgent issues”.
The bearer of this petition explains “a loss of flavor” for this show to return “without the famous cows”. Sébastien Cazaubon continues by not targeting the new producer, Nagui, “talented and respected host”. “We are distorting everything like this,” he regrets, “even the shows will be filmed on the same site. We are losing the very DNA of Intervilles.” And to continue: “However, when a host uses the great showcase of a popular program to impose his opinions and distort a program which has marked generations, this seems to me to become problematic. An entertainment program, like Intervilles, must remain faithful to what makes its essence, namely its playful character and its ability to bring viewers together around a popular show.”
“The queens of the game”
The Landais does not see how this program could bring people together without “the queens of the game”, namely the Landes cows. “Their place must not be called into question without serious reflection on the consequences of such a change”, details the petition holder “Nagui fights against bullfighting, and it is his most legitimate right, but that does not does not justify imposing a blanket ban, nor seeking to erase elements of popular culture under the pretext of respecting a particular cause.
Sébastien Cazaubon himself was surprised by the success of the petition. This Thursday, November 14 at 9 a.m., more than 780 people supported this petition. “I am delighted because personalities from the audiovisual world, respected television presenters, have also expressed their support for this petition,” he adds.
