Elegant, tropical and “pet-friendly”… this plant offers you a fascinating spectacle every evening!

With its veined leaves and elegant appearance, Calathea is a delight for indoor plant lovers.

Nicknamed the “prayer plant”, it offers a fascinating spectacle as soon as the light disappears.

Depolluting, non-toxic for animals, this tropical plant flourishes in moderately bright rooms.

Decorative, graphic and fascinating to observe, the Calathea is a particularly popular plant among plant lovers. With its colorful and veined leaves, this tropical beauty has found its place in our interiors. Easy to live with, the Calathea brings a touch of urban jungle to a living room, office or kitchen.

A plant that moves

The number one particularity of the Calathea is that its leaves move depending on the light. The one we nicknamed the “prayer plant” unfolds its leaves during the day and folds them back at night. This phenomenon, called nyctinastia, is surprising the first time you observe this dance of nature. It will fascinate you day after day.

A “depolluting” plant

Calathea is known to improve air quality. We don't always know it, but the air in our homes can be polluted by many factors. This plant absorbs circulating pollutants and releases oxygen. Result: indoor air is healthier. But that's not all, Calathea is also a plant that releases moisture into the air when it transpires. It is said to carry out “evapotranspiration”. Therefore, it is ideal for apartments where the air is too dry.

An easy-going plant

The Calathea can live for several years provided that its essential needs are respected: it likes indirect light and finds its place very well in moderately bright places. If your apartment lacks light, she will like it there. The Calathea needs moderate watering, but to have a substrate that is always moist. We remember that it is a tropical plant. Wet does not mean soggy! Make sure that its roots are not in water and that the soil is still well drained. Do not hesitate to place clay balls in the bottom of the pot. Finally, Calathea is a “pet-friendly” plant. In fact, it is not toxic to pets, unlike another wild beauty, the Monstera. It therefore presents no risk for dogs and cats who tend to be a little too curious!
