This Saturday, November 9, the first three episodes of season 2 ofArcane on Netflix. After a successful first salvo, expectations are high among the fans. Does this sequel measure up?
Time for the Champions League of Legends to find the twin towns of Piltover and Zaun rang. Exactly three years after the broadcast of season 1, Netflix finally offers its subscribers the second salvo of the series Arcaneinspired by the world of video games. In 2021, the animated series for adults became a real phenomenon, garnering praise from long-time players and newbies alike, completely foreign to this universe. So much so that Riot Games, the publisher of the game and producer of the series, and Fortiche, the French animation studio in charge of production, were awarded the Emmy Award for Best Animated Program. A first for a series or film from a streaming platform. Netflix quickly announced the renewal for a season 2, which arrived in three chapters this November. And Tele-Leisure was able to see a preview of the first three episodes, available this Saturday, November 9 for subscribers. So, does the sequel hold up?
Arcane season 2: captivating storytelling in open war
When you achieve the feat of getting everyone to agree when you are an outsider, you are inevitably expected to be around the corner to repeat the winning operation. And, not that we're chauvinistic, but the Fortiche studio doesn't seem the type to rest on its laurels in this second season. The characters were left hanging from Jinx's attack on the Piltover Council. Who survives or who dies is a question that we leave to the viewer to answer. But the result is obviously that war between the inhabitants of the surface and those of the underworld is declared, further widening the gap between Vi and Jinx, the sisters who have become enemies. If the plot, quite dense in situations and characters, is not the easiest to pick up, the art of narrationArcane takes irremediable effect. Much more action-oriented, each episode of this new salvo manages to grab our attention from start to finish, shaken by intelligent twists and turns. Particular care is taken with the character of Jinx, who haunts as much as he fascinates.
Arcane season 2: a universe as breathtaking as ever that continues to grow
One of the series' greatest qualities also lies in its inventiveness. Far from wanting to dwell on achievements, the creative teams decided to delight animation fans. Thus, each episode begins with a creative break in tone, offering precise sequences with new artistic directions: comics style, black and white… A visual ambition which serves the transformation of the characters. Season 2 also lifts the veil on another dimension of the universe League of Legendswhich extends beyond the walls of Zaun and Piltover alone. Particularly through the character of Ambessa and her army of Noxus, and her confrontation with a type of magic still unknown to spectators ofArcane. And there are still many surprises looming…
