Lennomp, a Carhaisian association created in 2023, publishes books in Breton presented in the form of subscription. The goals pursued are the promotion of creation in the Breton language, in order to encourage meetings between authors and readers, to meet the needs of readers, and taking into account the level of their mastery of Breton. Do more than edit in the Breton language. For example, the titles published in 2024 highlight the existence of other cultures in the world, the need for intergenerational relations, the opening of minds to current problems, the opposition to intransigence, etc. whatever the method of acquisition, Lennomp has chosen to financially help partner bilingual schools by donating half of the sales to them.

Books for toddlers and learners

Two books are available, for children aged three to five, written by Maïwen Morvan, and two works by Yann-Fañch Jacq, intended for learners. “Interested people can purchase and/or subscribe through the website or that of associated schools. The most important thing is to relay the information. Our choice was to put €2,000 into the deal, whether it sold or not. If you want it to work, talk about it to those around you,” announces Yann-Fañch Jacq, “We want to address a wider audience, beyond clichés and stereotypes. It would take 118 copies purchased for the accounts to balance. If the count is good, and we sell at least 118 copies, we will print more books.”

Ecological approach

“At a time when it is necessary to review ways of producing, Lennomp is part of an ecological approach. We have chosen not to create stock, to print the quantities requested and nothing more, to avoid waste. The projects are modeled, ready to be printed but will only be printed if there is real demand. The titles will not be available in bookstores, with no possibility of acquisition also once the deadline of May 31, 2024 has passed,” explains Yann-Fañch Jacq.

He continues: “The modeled book will only be sent to the printer if the standard is reached. If it is not, Lennomp undertakes to reimburse the subscriptions. If this level is exceeded, only the necessary quantities will be produced. Half of the sales price of the books is donated to the schools, and the other half to the association. We are counting on parent-teacher associations and teachers to boost orders because it will take the necessary quantities to do so. Currently we have received between 20 and 30 orders for each book. We would need 118 adults and 227 children.”

Practical

To order on the lennomp.bzh website before May 31, 2024: €7 per book + €3 shipping costs. Press release planned for June 2024.
