Alternative medicine, by Nicolas Rey: a love under prescription

REVIEW – A funny doctor struck by love sickness.

Martin Faubert is not a doctor like any other. His very conception of the profession – to learn “to examine, to administer IVs, to inoculate vaccines, to inject IV fluids and to feel abject bodies in all directions until death ensues” – has little to do with vocation.

For this 50-year-old general practitioner, the Hippocratic oath and ethics are fairly abstract notions while his way of setting his fees, “at the head of the customer”, hardly respects the agreed rates. Some of his prescriptions are also original, like those administered to an anxious woman: “I command you to drink every day, to use your joint account to treat yourself to high-calorie feasts at high-calorie restaurants.” It should be noted that drug consumption and the use of paid sex complete the prescription.
