For those who want to immerse themselves in a horror series, two fictions may catch your eye. This is season 12 ofAmerican Horror Storytitled Delicatebroadcast on the Canal+ website, as well as season 2 of Them (Them in French), available on Prime Video. While the first comes from a well-known and well-established franchise, the other is more discreet and remains unknown. However, the one that deserves all your attention at the moment is undoubtedly the latter. Created by Little Marvin, Them focuses on black horror, a cinematic genre highlighting African-American protagonists facing a discriminatory reality. It contains social and political commentary, while comparing racism and other experiences of this population through the use of codes and themes of horror.

The horror series Them offers a season 2 even more successful than the first

After a first season titled Theme: Covenantthe series returns with a second salvo and a new plot, this time named Theme: The Scare. This season 2 takes place in 1991, in Los Angeles. We follow Inspector Dawn Reeve (Deborah Ayorinde), who investigates a strange and horrible case. But as she gets closer to the truth, something malevolent takes hold of her and her family. At the same time, Edmund Gaines (Luke James), a misunderstood and alone young man, wants to become an actor. If horror is very present in this season, it nevertheless takes different forms. In front Them, you won’t jump all the time, but the anxiety will remain omnipresent. Thanks to an intriguing, dark and effective narration, as well as a successful staging and relevant light effects, we plunge into this story with fear and intensity. Certain scenes in particular revolted us, in particular those linked to racism and police violence. If the intrigues take their time to evolve, we still remain hypnotized and we don’t get bored.

Theme: The Scare, the current horror series not to be missed

The mysteries are gradually revealed and do not disappoint. The anguish and fear of the characters are palpable. As for the horror, it is not always visible. Theme: The Scare sometimes prefers to play on noises and imagination instead of showing us certain scenes. This ultimately amplifies the feeling of horror, fear, worry, unease but also curiosity. If we let ourselves be carried away by these episodes, it is also due to the excellent acting of the actors. Totally inhabited by their role, they offer disturbing performances. The one who amazed us the most was Luke James. The actor goes from one emotion to another in a few seconds and perfectly shows the duality of his character. He is terrifying and we would under no circumstances want to find ourselves face to face with him. If we easily guess one of the main twists, this in no way distorts the relevance of this season. However, the real surprise of this salvo lies in its finale which we absolutely did not see coming. A clever, clever and extremely interesting plot twist. The scenario is mastered from start to finish and plays perfectly with horror without being extreme or gory!

Season 12 ofAmerican Horror Story is a torture and completely misses the mark

Theme: The Scare succeeds to perfection where the last season ofAmerican Horror Story failed miserably! If the first seasons of the series imagined by Ryan Murphy offered us great hours, the magic seems to have died out with Delicate. In this twelfth salvo, based on the book Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine, actress Anna Alcott (Emma Roberts) is desperate to start a family. But when her doctor tells her that she has had a miscarriage, the young woman remains convinced that she is still pregnant. She is sure, she can feel the baby inside her. Curious symptoms and an increasingly intense feeling of danger lead her to question what she has inside her… If the start of the season intrigued and interested us, we ultimately quickly got tired of it. The lengths multiply and the episodes appear repetitive. The scenario does not advance, the horror no longer has an effect and the themes relate more to recycling than to innovation. Far from being subtle, this season 12 ofAmerican Horror Story does not shed light on the plots until too late. The boredom is total and we wonder why we put ourselves through this torture! The only surprise we didn’t see coming was Kim Kardashian, who turned out to be quite good in her role.
