a new series from the creator of Bridgerton based on the book by Elle Kennedy is coming

Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen has a new teen series based on Elle Kennedy’s best-selling book Girl Abroad. Van Dusen, in fact, as Deadline discovered, is developing a television adaptation of the book published by Little Brown in February 2024 with A24 and Pacesetter Productions. IGirl Abroad follows the daughter of a retired rock star who finds herself embroiled in scandal and romance after she begins studying abroad in London.

Van Dusen will serve as executive producer under his CVD Productions and will also serve as showrunner on the series. A24 will produce alongside Jessica Rhoades and Alison Mo Massey of Pacesetter Production. The series is part of A24’s first deal with Rhoades and Pacesetter. Kennedy will also serve as executive producer. Girl Abroad is Van Dusen’s latest project following the creation of the hit Netflix drama Bridgerton. Last year, he sold the series adaptation of They Both Die At The End, produced with Bad Bunny, to Netflix.

Girl Abroad: The Plot

Nineteen-year-old Abbey Bly is given the opportunity to study abroad for a year in London and quickly seizes the opportunity to escape the control of her beloved but oppressive retired rock star father. Abbey is ready to live her life in complete freedom, to discover herself, but above all to get to know the girls she sleeps with. Until he arrives at his new apartment and discovers that the roommates are actually all boys. Charming, funny, attractive, out-of-bounds guys with a rule against fraternizing between roommates after unwanted drama with the previous girl.

Abbey finds herself lying to her father about her situation and falling in love with not one, but two boys she can’t have: her rugby-playing roommate and a brooding musician with a girlfriend. Additionally, her research for the school embroiled her in a scandal linked to a high-nobility family, surrounding her with secrets from all sides.
