“Crying in the supermarket”, “Nothing ever happens here” and “Jim’s crossing”: our three “books” of the week

Barack Obama has made a habit of sharing his favorite playlists and music. In 2021, in his selection, the former American president had slipped the first title of Michelle Zauner, Crying at the supermarket (Crying in H Mart). This atypical story about his mother oscillates between modesty and strength. It has already won over a million readers and is now available in French.

“Nothing ever happens here” (Olivier Adam)

Olivier Adam, this time in a thriller, autopsy the hidden violence of men and their silences. In a town where nothing is happening, we discover the corpse of a young woman, with her throat cut, at the foot of a cliff. A “chilling” noir novel, a way to take us into this “peripheral” France.

“Jim’s Crossing” (Alia Cardyn)

If there is a difficult subject to discuss, it is that of childhood cancer. So much so that there are few or no children’s albums that talk about it. Alia Cardyn, former lawyer, author of Miss Butterfly (Robert Laffont, 2020), a novel that has sold more than 50,000 copies, takes hold of it with the delicacy and caring soul that characterize it.

The day Jim learned he had cancer, the weather was nice... (Jim's crossing, Alia Cardyn and Nathaniel H'Limi, Robert Laffont youth).
