In our villages, folk marches take on particular importance each year, importance increased tenfold during a birthday or jubilee. This year in Chasprès, the Saint-Roch march is celebrating not only its 50th anniversary but also the 30th of the gendarmes company. On this occasion, an exhibition was organized this weekend in the parish hall. Since the opening which took place on Thursday evening to the rhythm of fifes and drums until the end of the day on Sunday, many villagers and folklore enthusiasts did not miss this unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of this march which has evolved every August 15 since 1974.

The exhibition was enhanced by an impressive collection of marching banners loaned by a private collector from Jumet. Flags, signs, drum major canes, etc., were on display as well as numerous press articles and photos recalling the highlights of the march. “We said to ourselves that this 50th anniversary was an opportunity to talk about other aspects of the village,” explains Jean-Marie Antoine, author of a very in-depth work published for the occasion. “Through numerous documents, we evoke the origins of the village, communal life, schools, wars, heritage, trades of the past and even sports and leisure activities”, he explains. This book is on sale for €20 at the farm “El cinse du Trieu”, rue Trieu d’Aublain 10, 0477 530 510.
