the 10 biggest inconsistencies of the cult series

It has been more than 30 years since The Simpsons exists, and this longevity can lead to several inconsistencies in the story. We decided to list the 10 greatest from the cult animated series!

Is Homer really invincible in The Simpsons ?

©FOX

In episode 3 of season 8 of Simpson, we learn that Homer has the ability to take hits. Moe then decides to take him under his wing and make him become a boxing champion. The strategy is simple: exhaust the competitors so that Homer then knocks them out with fatigue. Because yes, he can receive thousands of blows without feeling pain, or getting a scratch. Yet in several episodes, we see the character being injured or in pain after being hit. For example in episode 15 of season 24, Flanders punches him and Homer comes out with a black eye.

The birth of Maggie

© Fox

For once, this is a big mistake on the part of the writers! In episode 13 of season 6, we see a flashback showing Marge announcing Maggie’s birth. Problem, we can see a photo of the baby hanging on the wall, even though she is not yet born! We’ll say that it’s okay, eh…

The farm where Homer grew up

In episode 10 of season 6, Homer returns to the farm where he grew up with his father, Abraham. But things get worse when the latter tells him that he never wanted his son to be born. At the end of this episode, the farm in question catches … But what was the surprise to see it again intact 5 seasons later in “ A hell of a harvestr”! The Simpsons decide to live there in this episode to escape a resident of Springfield who challenged Homer to a duel.

The gene of Simpson

In episode 17 of season 9, Lisa feels like she is losing all her intelligence and fears becoming as stupid as her father Homer and her brother Bart. Abraham then explains to her that there is a gene in the Simpsons that makes them stupid over time, and that Lisa is therefore doomed. Homer, for his part, wants to prove the opposite and invites his whole family to do the same. We thus learn that only the boys in the family have the stupidity gene, and that women are destined to have a very good career! Problem is, Homer has a half-brother named Herbert Powell, who is a very intelligent, wealthy businessman. If the stupidity gene is supposed to affect all Simpson men, why isn’t he as stupid as Homer and the others?

The pencil in the brain

© Fox

Besides, if we assume that Homer is stupid because of the Simpson gene, episode 9 of season 12 is totally inconsistent with the story. We learn here that if the father of the family has a very low IQ, it is because he has a pencil stuck in his brain. His stupidity would therefore have nothing to do with the whole story of the gene…

Marge’s phobia in The Simpsons

© Fox

Series characters have unusual phobias, and we learn in episode 11 of season 6 that Marge has a great fear of flying. So much so that she will undergo therapy in this episode. A major inconsistency since the Simpsons have traveled several times. And in season 3, they flew to Washington DC, and at that point Marge never said she was afraid of flying, quite the contrary.

The identity of Seymour Skinner

© Fox

Episode 2 of season 9 of Simpson offers us a major turnaround. We learn that Seymour Skinner is not the real Seymour Skinner. He is an imposter who took the identity of the real Seymour Skinner when the latter died in the army. Seymour’s real name is Armin Tamzarian and he has stolen his identity to live comfortably. Problem, several things prove that this twist is not consistent with the character’s real story.

Firstly because if he took the place of the real Seymour, that would mean that he didn’t stay long in the Vietnam War. However, we know in season 3 that he spent 18 months as a prisoner of war. In addition, in episode 22 of season 7, we know that Homer Simpson’s father made a pact with Skinner’s grandfather, Sheldon. And the latter looks terribly like Seymour!

The Simpsons are banned from the States… Or not!

© Fox

In episode 19 of season 11, the Simpsons go to Florida because Homer needs to take a vacation. If everyone is having fun and having a good stay, things will turn into drama when Homer kills the emblematic state crocodile. They are then banned from Florida following this incident, and we see at the end of the episode that they do not have access to other states either. However in episode 7 of season 14, they go to Orlando to accompany Edna who is about to receive the teacher of the year award. Homer and Marge also spend a stay in Miami in season 15, which is in Florida, where they were banished for the crocodile story.

Maude Flanders’ presence at Lisa’s wedding

© Fox

In episode 19 of season 6, a psychic predicts Lisa’s future and explains to her in passing that she is going to have a lousy marriage. In the flashfoward, we can see that Maude Flanders attends her wedding. An impossible situation since Ned’s wife dies in episode 14 of season 11!

Lisa’s best friend

© Fox

At the beginning of Simpson, Janey was introduced as Lisa’s best friend. But as the series progresses, her BFF is pushed aside (for no reason) and Lisa is presented as a lonely, friendless girl. Whereas initially, she spent her time alongside Janey, which is therefore not logical.
