Goodbye Earth, a new dystopian Netflix series is available since April 26. The series from South Korea caused controversy because of one of its actors. We’ll explain it to you.

It’s one of the most anticipated series of the moment. This April 26, 2024, the Korean series Goodbye Earth is released on Netflix. A few weeks ago, there was uncertainty over the arrival of this dystopian series on the platform. And for good reason, as the Korean Times, one of the main actors of the series, Yoo Ah-in, had to be almost entirely erased from the program. The reason ? A drug consumption scandal which exploded in 2023. The actor, known to fans of Korean series for his role in Hellboundamong other projects, tested positive for multiple drugs in February 2023, just one year after announcing he would be cast in Goodbye Earth which had been filmed at the time. The analyzes notably revealed the presence of an anesthetic, propofol, as well as marijuana, cocaine and ketamine in his body.
The episodes of Goodbye Earth were reassembled to erase Yoo Ah-in
“This affair appeared while I was in the middle of editing the first three episodesexplains Goodbye Earth creator Kim Jin-min. At first, I didn’t think it would get this big and I hoped it would resolve itself. But that was not the case.” Given Yoo Ah-in’s prominent place in the series, cutting all of her scenes wasn’t really an option. “I did my best to keep it compelling by removing Yoo’s scenes without affecting the efforts of the other actors. I ask you to show understanding”underlines Kim Jin-min.

Goodbye Earth, based on the Japanese novel of the same name, is a science fiction series in 12 episodes in which we follow the lives of several characters – a schoolteacher, an army officer or even a priest – while an asteroid must crash into the Earth. As the 200-day countdown to the end of the world begins, each of the characters has a different way of approaching the apocalypse.
