A video of the rescue of a turtle from the ashes of a house ravaged by the flames that have been consuming Los Angeles for three weeks has greatly moved Internet users.
A little parenthesis of happiness in the chaos of the flames. Earlier this week, the sheriff of San Dimas, a district of Los Angeles, released a video of a miraculous rescue. His teams managed to find a pet turtle that residents of Altadena had to leave behind when their home was ravaged by the flames of the Eaton fire. The animal, which weighs around fifty kilos, had hidden in a hole and is in good health.
In the video, posted on Instagram, we see the sheriff arriving in the “safe zone”, where the families are waiting, with the turtle, which he is holding at arm’s length. A woman then rushes towards the officer and hugs her colleague with happiness. Behind her, applause, cries of joy and “Yay!” Rocky is home! Bravo to our heroes” are heard. A photo of the charred remains of the turtle’s owners’ house then appears, showing how unexpected this rescue was.

A chain of solidarity also for animals
Cat, dog, horses, sheep… The Pasadena Humane Society, one of the main animal welfare associations in Los Angeles, told CNN that it had taken in at least 610 animals since the fires began on January 7. Some shelters even flew the mammals they took in before the fires to other states to make room for survivors.

And while 33,000 people remain under evacuation orders, authorities have set up evacuation centers throughout the Los Angeles area to allow people to bring their pets and livestock. Hundreds of horses, as well as cows, pigs, sheep and donkeys were also brought to safety at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.
Unfortunately, not all of the animals could be saved, many being trapped by the flames.
