Torino
Having won just one of their last 12 matches, Torino continue their fall in the standings and now find themselves in the lower part of the table, despite a four-game unbeaten run. However, the downside to this recent dynamic is that all four matches ended in draws. The last two draws can be seen as a positive point for the Bulls, with draws against Juventus and Fiorentina. After being down 0-1 and reduced to ten men, Torino showed resilience, equalizing thanks to a goal from young Lithuanian talent Gvidas Guineitis.
“Four consecutive draws for a team fighting for survival represent a series of positive results to be viewed exclusively in a positive light. The squad is solid and improving, despite the gaps in the squad and the current problems in the transfer market. Mainly, the last match against Fiorentina showed a cohesive team that holds its position well and does not give an inch, as evidenced by the away draw with a chance of victory. Ultimately, Torino’s usual problem was highlighted in this match: the lack of a striker,” said the Torino Granata editorial team.
The Granata have only managed to record two wins in their last 11 meetings with Cagliari, having lost 2-3 earlier this season in Sardinia.
“Cagliari have performed well in their last three games, and since changing formation the team is playing at a better level. They inspire fear; they have become accustomed to fighting for points in recent years, and it shows. They are physically strong and become dangerous during set pieces and throw-ins. Aerial duels will be decisive. We are playing at home and we must take advantage of this opportunity,” noted Torino coach Paolo Vanoli.
-Cagliari
Vanoli’s remarks are justified, as Cagliari have indeed shown an excellent level in their last three matches. The Sardinians accumulated 7 points during these matches and left the relegation zone! Following their victory against Monza, the team drew against Milan and triumphed against Lecce (4-1). Cagliari trailed until the 60th minute, but a red card for Ante Rebic turned the tide and allowed the Sardinians to achieve a significant victory. A victory against the Bulls could allow them to overtake Torino in the standings. However, they haven’t won back-to-back Serie A games in almost a year, which could pose a mental hurdle.
“In Turin we will have to show courage. Torino is a quality, prepared team that plays active football. I was impressed with our team in the first half against Lecce, although we had a few slow moments; however, the substitutions improved the situation. I insist: we deserved to lead before the break,” commented Cagliari coach Davide Nicola.
Recently, the Cagliari coach met three champions of the victorious team of the 1970 Italian championship, a commemoration held on the first anniversary of the death of Luigi Riva. Perhaps this will provide additional motivation to visitors.
Torino vs Cagliari: Predictable Teams
Torino vs Cagliari: Author’s Prediction
Any away victory will be considered a great result for Cagliari. If the team can avoid losing for the fourth time in a row, Sardinian fans will be more than happy. So, let’s establish it: a draw would suit the visitors just fine. The question remains whether such a result would be acceptable for Torino? In their last four matches, Toro have drawn with their opponents. I dare to predict a fifth similar result.
