A British teenager on Thursday repeatedly interrupted the start of his sentencing for the murder of three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party last July, shouting from the dock that he didn’t feel not well before being expelled.
Axel Rudakubana, 18, admitted on Monday to carrying out the killings in the northern English town of Southport, an atrocity that was followed by days of rioting across the country.
He also pleaded guilty to ten counts of attempted murder in connection with the attack, as well as producing the deadly poison ricin and possessing an al-Qaeda training manual.
During sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court, Rudakubana repeatedly interrupted prosecutor Deanna Heer, shouting from the dock: “I need to speak to a paramilitary.” a first aider, I feel bad.
His lawyer Stan Reiz said Rudakubana suffered chest pains.
After Judge Julian Goose refused to adjourn sentencing, Rudakubana shouted “don’t continue”, prompting the judge to ask him to stand down. Someone shouted “coward” from the public gallery as he left the scene.
-Before he lost his temper, prosecutor Deena Heer began laying out what happened on the day of the murders in July last year, saying it was not inspired by any political ideology or religious.
“His sole aim was to kill and he targeted the youngest and most vulnerable in order to spread as much fear and outrage as possible, which he succeeded in doing,” she said.
When arrested at the police station after the incident, Axel Rudakubana was heard saying: “It’s a good thing those children are dead… I’m so happy…”. I’m so happy…so happy.”
