the general rise in prices was bogus

Oops. Last December, Canal+ announced to its members a general increase in subscription prices of €2. Bad news that wasn’t bad news: it was a “technical malfunction”, the channel announced.

Viewers of Canal+ will ultimately not have to pay more for their subscription. In mid-December, they learned via an email sent by the group that a price increase would apply from the monthly renewal in January. The standard Canal+ subscription was to increase to €21.99 instead of €19.99, for example.

The story has a happy ending: the price increase was not a story. Canal+ customer service sent a new email to subscribers to reassure them, the previous email being the consequence of a “ technical malfunction ». « You received a letter by mistake in December informing you of a price increase », We can read in the message shared by @David Fritsch.

Fortunately, “ your offer remains unchanged and your subscription will continue under the same conditions as currently, in particular price and duration “. No explanation on the nature of this bug, or even an apology, we have to be content with little but ultimately, good news is good news.

Subscribers without commitment are free to stop their subscription whenever they wish. On the other hand, offers with commitment — by definition — engage members to continue their subscription until the end of the offer period… except in the event of a price increase. The first email from Canal+ specified that early termination was possible following this real-false price increase. We don’t know if many of them canceled their access, but perhaps this ended up pushing Canal+ to look into this bug.
