Goodyear reacts following the -Berg fire: “Employee safety, the top priority”

All the commotion this Monday in -Berg, where a fire broke out in the Goodyear factory during the afternoon. Very quickly, major resources were deployed to try to contain the fire. The CGDIS explained on Monday evening that the fire had impacted “two production machines used to transform raw materials for the manufacture of tires”.

Furthermore, the fire had already spread to an adjacent filtering installation. “While the extinction work on the filters quickly bore fruit, the extinction of the production lines, for its part, lasted until the end of the afternoon,” added the CCGDIS, mentioning no less than 120 firefighters mobilized on site. In total, 11 people had to be taken to hospital for further examination for smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out in the mixing zone

When contacted, Goodyear also reacted to the fire that occurred this Monday within the Luxembourg factory. The American giant thus indicates that the fire started in a mixing zone. It is in this section where the different materials needed to make tires (like rubber, chemicals, and other components) are mixed to create the rubber mixture used to make the tires.

Goodyear explains that “the safety of our employees was our top priority.” So, in response to the incident, “the factory was quickly evacuated.” “The fire was successfully extinguished that same afternoon,” recalls the tire manufacturer.
