Kotkaniemi achieves first in almost two years

Former Montreal Canadiens forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi hasn’t had the expected offensive success since his arrival with the Carolina Hurricanes, but Tuesday night, he reminded everyone that he has maintained his touch around the opposing nets.

The Finn scored both goals in a 2-1 win over the Stars in Dallas. At the same time, he put the brakes on a drought of nine games without a goal and achieved his first double in the regular season since March 14, 2023.

“KK” surprised goalie Jake Oettinger with a quick shot following a cross-ice pass from Brent Burns to open the scoring late in the second period.

Returning from the locker room, Thomas Harley created the deadlock with less than 10 minutes remaining, but Kotkaniemi responded by redirecting a high puck into the Stars cage. He has nine goals this season.

The “Canes” enjoyed a third consecutive triumph.

Another lost lead for the Sharks

In Nashville, the San Jose Sharks blew a four-goal priority to lose 7 to 5 to the Predators, who were able to count on the talent of Jonathan Marchessault.

The Quebecer had a blast with a goal and three assists. He notably reduced the gap to a net at the start of the third period by pushing the disc behind goalkeeper Alexandar Georgiev.

Marchessault was also complicit in the success of Nick Blankenburg, who gave the “Preds” the lead for good. Note also the third goal of the campaign from former Habs Justin Barron.

For the Sharks, who lost 6 to 3 against the Boston Bruins on Monday despite a lead, Macklin Celebrini opened the scoring in the second minute of play. He brought his total of goals in the regular season to 14.
