The vision of cinema by Bertrand Blier

Director Bertrand Blier, famous for his iconoclastic comedies The Valseuses, Evening wear et Buffet froiddied on January 21, 2025 at the age of 85. He won the Oscar for best foreign film in 1979 for Prepare your tissues.

Bertrand Blier’s cinema is an ode to provocation and black humor, with undisguised pleasure in the use of deliberately flowery language. This irreverence appealed to the public and his films all obtained good reviews.

Prepare your tissuess, Evening wear, Calm, Buffet froid…Bertrand Blier takes his first steps behind the film with a documentary entitled Hitler, don’t know. But he achieved his first cinematic success in 1974 with the film The waltzers. A highly satirical comedy, with crude dialogues that would probably be difficult to pass today… It is also his first collaboration with a range of actors that he will rotate several times: Miou-Miou, Patrick Dewaere (with whom he will tour three times, including for Prepare your tissues in 1977) and of course his favorite actor Gérard Depardieu whom he himself describes as “brilliant”. Both will collaborate eight times together.
