The trial of Yan Pluvinage, 33, accused of having killed Abdelkader Lazreg in July 2020 in Jean-Verlhac Park in Grenoble, opened this Monday before the Isère Assize Court. This tragedy, which occurred in the Villeneuve district, remains marked by gray areas.

An ambush or intentional homicide?

The facts date back to the night of July 8 to 9, 2020. The lifeless body of Abdelkader Lazreg, 22, was found in Jean-Verlhac Park, killed by a bullet to the chest. Before the court, Yan Pluvinage denied any premeditation according to the Dauphiné Libéré: “I never woke up one morning wanting to do that.”he declared. He claims to have been caught in an ambush orchestrated by Icham Meziane, a man convicted of drug trafficking, who allegedly accused him of having denounced him.

According to Pluvinage, Abdelkader Lazreg pointed a gun at him during a confrontation. A fight reportedly broke out, and the fatal shot was fired when he attempted to turn the gun on Lazreg.

Three accused face justice

In addition to Yan Pluvinage, two other men appear: Icham Meziane, 35, accused of criminal association, and Imad Benzerhouni, 25, who allegedly drove the vehicle transporting Pluvinage before the altercation broke out. Meziane, who denies any involvement, firmly defended himself: “I have nothing to do with them. They don’t even have my phone number”he said on the stand.

As for Imad Benzerhouni, he declared that he had been taken by surprise by the events.

A fourth individual, a minor at the time of the events, will be tried separately by the children’s court.

A sentence of 30 years of criminal imprisonment is incurred

The trial, scheduled to extend throughout the week, should provide a better understanding of the exact circumstances of that night of July 8 to 9, 2020. The accused, Yan Pluvinage, faces a sentence of thirty years in prison, while ‘Icham Meziane and Imad Benzerhouni each face five years of imprisonment.
