Femicide: a sixty-year-old indicted for the murder of his partner in Vendée

A sixty-year-old, who drunkenly confessed to the murder of his partner in Vendée, was indicted on Sunday for murder and placed in pre-trial detention, announced the La Roche-sur-Yon prosecutor’s office.

Friday, the man, aged 61, was arrested in (Hauts-de-) after revealing “in a state of drunkenness” to have killed his partner at the latter’s home in Luçon, in Vendée, according to a press release on Saturday from the public prosecutor of La Roche-sur-Yon, Sarah Huet.

Placed in police custody, he “admitted to strangling and suffocating his partner” on Thursday following an “argument”. The lifeless body of the victim, aged 69, was discovered in Luçon on Saturday, according to the magistrate.

The man was presented on Sunday “to an investigating judge at the end of his custody” and “indicted for murder by partner and placed in pre-trial detention”, Sarah Huet said on Sunday.

According to sources within the gendarmerie, the husband confessed on Friday evening while he was drunk at Cambrai hospital.

In 2023, 96 women were victims of marital femicide in France, a figure down 19% compared to 2022, according to the latest report from the Ministry of the Interior published at the end of November.
