A fire broke out in a house in Amanvillers, west of . Although two adults and two children were able to escape the flames, another child died.

A 7-year-old child died in a fire in his house in Amanvillers, in , on the night of Saturday January 18 to Sunday January 19, Agence -presse (AFP) learned from firefighters.

“The house fire was violent as soon as the call was made” to the firefighters, Lieutenant-Colonel Gaël Zimmer, of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) of Moselle, told AFP, confirming information from France 3.

“There were five occupants inside the home, two adults and three children. Two adults and two children were able to evacuate before emergency services arrived, and one child was missing. He was found deceased,” he added.

Around 50 firefighters mobilized

At the height of the intervention, around 50 firefighters were mobilized, as well as around twenty vehicles, including three pump machines, an aerial ladder, a medical team and a clearing rescue unit.

The fire was brought under control on Sunday morning, the firefighters treated the residual fires as they cleared the fire.

A judicial investigation was opened to determine the causes of the incident. The Metz public prosecutor told France 3 that she had been entrusted to the national gendarmerie.
