Former Canadiens forward Marcel Bonin, winner of four Stanley Cups, including three in Montreal, took his last breath on Sunday at the venerable age of 92.
His daughter Manon made the announcement in a Facebook post.
Bonin was recognized as a very aggressive player despite his 5 feet 8 inches. According to many, he was the strongest man pound for pound in the entire NHL in the 1950s.
It is even said that he fought against a bear at the age of 16 while a circus was passing through the town of Joliette. This is how he was given the nickname the Bear of Joliette.
-Bonin won the first of his four Cups with the Detroit Red Wings in 1955 before contributing to three consecutive conquests with the Canadiens from 1958 to 1960.
It was especially during the 1959 series that he played a providential role with 15 points, including 10 goals, in 10 games.
In 454 NHL games, Bonin totaled 97 goals and 175 assists for 272 points. He also accumulated 336 penalty minutes.
