who are the three Israeli hostages about to be released? – Liberation

The first three hostages to be released during the first phase of the truce on January 19 are women: Emily Damari, Romi Gonen, Doron Steinbrecher were kidnapped on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel, during the surprise attack by Hamas, and taken by commandos into the Gaza Strip. They should regain their freedom this Sunday afternoon, in exchange for 95 Palestinians detained by Israel, after more than 470 days of captivity. According to the ceasefire agreements, four more living hostages are to be released within a week. Families are supposed to be informed 24 hours in advance.

That day, the attackers took away 219 living men and women, civilians or soldiers, and 33 dead bodies – a total of 252 people, including 91 young girls and women. After the release of around a hundred hostages as part of an exchange with Palestinian prisoners during the first truce at the end of November 2024, it was estimated that ten women aged between 18 and 39 were still being held in Gaza, with a high number of fear that they will be victims of sexual violence.
