The fire started around 1:30 a.m. in an old farmhouse of 300 m² renovated and divided into two dwellings. On the ground floor, a family of two adults and three children were able to leave the premises before emergency services arrived, but upstairs, the 86-year-old man was found unconscious by emergency services.
The preferred accidental cause
The emergency services then took him out of the burning house. Already lifeless, he was taken care of directly by the funeral directors. The family who survived the second accommodation will be relocated to a gîte. Firefighters continued to extinguish residual fires in the morning, as the structure of the building was weakened and presented a risk of collapse.
An investigation has been opened. According to initial information collected, everything indicates that the tragedy was of accidental origin.
