A fire broke out at an industrial waste storage site in Feyzin. No casualties have been reported and the fumes are not dangerous according to the authorities. The smell bothered many people in the metropolis.
A fire broke out this Sunday, January 19 at a Suez electrical and electronic equipment waste storage site in Feyzin, BFM Lyon learned from firefighters and the Rhône prefecture. The origin of the fire remains unknown at this stage.
There are no victims. A large plume of white smoke is emanating from the site, but it does not present any danger to the population. The smoke did not “impact” traffic on the A7 motorway. “An air quality measurement network is deployed (…) at different points. At present, the first measurements do not indicate toxicity,” indicates the prefect’s office.
-The fire is contained
Around fifty firefighters and 14 land vehicles have been mobilized since 7 a.m. this morning to support the site’s firefighters who were facing “hydraulic supply difficulties”, according to the prefecture. Shortly before 12 p.m., the fire was contained.
Many people have reported on social networks having smelled a strong chemical and/or burning smell in the metropolis, “olfactory nuisances” which can be felt throughout the Lyon metropolitan area according to the prefecture.
