The City of Château-Thierry (Aisne) accompanied, with the winegrowers, work on the path to Progress to strengthen the flood control. This work aims to reduce runoff problems observed during heavy rains, mainly due to runoff from the upper bottoms. These waters frequently flooded adjacent streets, such as Avenue de Champagne, Rue du Buisson and Rue de Paradis.
Better channel rainwater
To remedy this situation, the path profile was modified in order to better channel rainwater towards the retention basin under Blanchard wood. This basin has been rehabilitated, with cleaning and dredging of its bottom to improve its retention capacity.
The stones that fell into the basin have been identified, and the work to develop the entrances to the basin is being finalized. The path is now fully accessible to users.
-Sustainable solutions
These arrangements aim to reduce nuisance for local residentsin response to current climate challenges. Furthermore, sustainable solutions, such asinfiltration of rainwater directly onto the plotshave been put in place. This principle is already applied in several sectors, such as the new developments of public spaces in Vaucrises and around the Palais des Rencontres, where the developments allow direct absorption of water on site.
Mohamed Rezzouki, deputy mayor responsible for town planning and works, specifies: “This work aims to protect local residents against the risks of flooding, which are occurring more and more frequently. By improving our stormwater management infrastructure, we are responding to the environmental issues while preserving the integrity of property and people. »
