“There was a mistake”, Pierre Palmade victim of an incident in prison within the isolation unit

An administrative investigation is underway at Bordeaux-Gradignan prison. It aims to understand the circumstances of an incident that occurred on Monday January 13, 2025. This would have involved Pierre Palmade, incarcerated in the isolation unit according to our colleagues at RTL, Thursday January 16, 2025. According to their judicial source, this that day, the gate which separates the isolation area from the rest of the detainees remained open for a few moments. At the same time, Pierre Palmade’s cell as well as another in the same sector were unlocked. These simultaneous openings have raised questions, because isolation aims to guarantee strict separation of detainees. The prison administration immediately reacted by launching an internal investigation. This “fairly classic reframing procedure takes place at the establishment level”. The isolation areas are under constant surveillance, so video surveillance recordings should provide some answers to this incident.

This incident occurred during a visit by a prison representative. According to information from Sud-Ouest, Friday January 17, 2025, it was Hubert Gratraud, FO Justice delegate. The latter confirmed to our colleagues that he had met him that day. “I was passing through the solitary confinement unit and I wanted to discuss with Mr. Palmade some celebrity press articles which tell anything and everything about his conditions of detention,” he assured.
