Israel to accept hostage release deal with Hamas

L’Ceasefire agreement in Gaza must be ratified by Israel. While the Hebrew government accused Hamas of going back on certain points of the truce on Thursday, the Israeli cabinet must finally meet this Friday, January 17 to approve it, announced the office of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. The agreement, reached between the two parties on Wednesday, involves the release of Israeli hostages held in the Palestinian enclave. It is due to come into force this Sunday.

The vote was initially scheduled for Thursday, but was postponed until Friday because, according to the Israeli government, Hamas made last-minute demands. In the early hours of Friday, Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet announced in a statement that the agreement would be approved shortly.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was informed by the negotiating teams that agreements had been reached on the release of the hostages,” it was indicated.

The security cabinet is due to meet on Friday, before the government coalition led by Benjamin Netanyahu approves the agreement, the Prime Minister’s office said. It was not clear whether the government coalition would meet on Friday or Saturday or whether the ceasefire, which is due to take place on Sunday, would be delayed.
