Vitor Pereira Newcastle United Press Conference – Talks about the challenge posed by Isak and NUFC

Vitor Pereira press conference at Newcastle United during my meeting.

The Wolves boss speaks to reporters ahead of Wednesday night’s game.

Vitor Pereira took over four weeks ago at Molineux and has collected seven points from his first three PL matches.

A 3-0 home defeat to Forest followed, before a 2-1 FA Cup victory at Bristol City on Saturday.

The priority, however, is to avoid relegation and Vitor Pereira has taken Wolves out of the relegation zone, but only on goal difference as things stand.

Vitor Pereira on the challenge posed by Newcastle United:

“It’s a strong team but I don’t know a perfect team.

“We have to understand very well the key points, the tactical points of this team, the technical points, the individual points of this team and with our game – because we also have qualities, we have high quality players – we have to explore our key points and try to ignore them and try not to allow them to play the way they like to play.

“Eddie Howe is a great coach.

“When I look at a manager, I don’t look at what he says, but at his teams and what they build, and Newcastle are a very strong team.

“Of course Eddie has been at Newcastle for a long time and it’s easier to build something strong, and that’s my intention at Wolverhampton: to build something strong.

“Now is the time to rally everyone around this idea.”

“For me, a team only has one brain. It has to have one brain, which means everyone on the field has to identify when to press, when to wait, when to go fast, when to slow down, and we have to have an intelligence inside the field, which scans everything and understands the game. Our game.”

Vitor Pereira on how Wolves can stop Alexander Isak:

“As a team. We have to play as a team.

“If we only play Isak, it will be Wolves’ 11 against Isak. But it’s 11-11, 11 against a team that has won eight straight.

“When we look at these opponents, we understand why they are in this state, because they play with identity, they have a high physical, technical and tactical level.

“It’s a very good job from the coach because they have an identity that is very clear to me – it’s very clear, and they’re a very strong team.

“We have to look at them but also look at our game and understand our game. How to face this team with our game. That’s the most important thing for me.

“I have to look at our game, our players, our qualities, and confront them with our identity. This is the most important. It’s not about changing our identity, but about trying to force it against a different adversary.

Vitor Pereira on Wolves’ injury and availability ahead of Wednesday night:

“Nelson, Dawson and Cunha will be ready for the game, but they are coming back from injury, so we have to be careful about the minutes they can play.

“But we need players and players with this quality.

“The conversations we have together are very comfortable. He [Cunha] is very happy with this match and his role in the team. That means if he’s happy, I’m happy, if he plays at a high level, I’m happy for him.

“From the start I said it was Wolves’ game, it wasn’t Vitor Pereira’s game, it was something they needed to feel like it was the game we wanted to play . This is the game we work on every day to build.

Vitor Pereira on a tough run of matches ahead:

“If I think about the next six games, I think I won’t sleep – but I need to sleep and rest!

“We have to think about Newcastle.

“Newcastle is the most important game for us because it’s the next one.

“We have to have confidence in ourselves. I don’t believe in “Supermans”, it’s the other side – 11 players – against our side – 11 players – and we always have a chance.

“If we play against the best team in the world, we have a chance. If we play with the right energy, the right commitment, the right team spirit and if we compete with courage, we can win.
