Irishman Conor McGregor, emblematic figure of MMA, is once again at the heart of legal turmoil. A woman sued him in American federal civil justice, accusing him of having sexually assaulted her in the toilets of the Kaseya Center in Miami, in June 2023, during an NBA game.
The case was initially investigated by the Miami-Dade County District Attorney’s Office, which includes the city of Miami. However, the case was closed due to lack of sufficient evidence to prosecute. “At the end of an in-depth investigation, at the time, the prosecutor concluded that there was insufficient evidence,” recalled Conor McGregor’s lawyer, Barbara Llanes.
“New false version” for the defense
Despite this decision, the plaintiff decided to initiate civil proceedings, an approach that her lawyer, James Dunn, justifies in these terms. “Civil proceedings are the only legal avenue in this matter,” he explained. The complaint, filed Tuesday, also accuses the operator of the Kaseya Center of negligence in facilitating the alleged assault.
Conor McGregor’s defense has strongly rejected the accusations, calling the complaint a “new false story.” Barbara Llanes added: “Almost two years later, and after three lawyers, the plaintiff has a new false version. We are confident that this action will also be ruled out. »
A reputation tarnished by legal cases
This case is not the first to damage the image of the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion. In November 2024, Conor McGregor was ordered by the Dublin High Court to pay 248,603 euros in damages to a 35-year-old woman, who accused him of having “brutally raped and beaten” her.
