It doesn’t seem like it and yet, the Spurs have an important decision to make in the next 3 weeks. To trade or not to trade? For Bleacher Report, the ideal exchange certainly exists on the market.
With a record of 19 wins for 19 losses, it is impossible to say if the Spurs will manage to reach a place in the playoffs. The talent is there, but the exact same thing could be said about the competition. Every franchise has a reason to believe in the postseason and San Antonio is not necessarily the favorite, Victor Wembanyama or not.
The Frenchman naturally changes the situation in Texas. Given his season, he will be named All-Star and is already the favorite to win the DPOY right away. As a bonus? There NBA decided to rank him 4th for the MVP ranking during the last counter. It’s not the league that decides at the end, but it says a lot about his campaign.
A perfect trade for the Spurs?
So for many supporters, why wait any longer? Many people want to see the Spurs take a chance on a major trade in the Western Conference. The ideal target? Definitely De’Aaron Fox, who could provide additional help to the lead with his scoring.

Jonas Valanciunas is to be followed to have a real backup behind Wemby, but the fans want to be ambitious in the West… just like the media Bleacher Report. In a recent article, BR decided to come up with a trade to send Fox to Texas to help this roster. But it certainly won’t be free.
Spurs receive: De’Aaron Fox
Kings receive: Keldon Johnson, Tre Jones, Malaki Branham, Hawks 2025 first rounder, 2027 first rounder (unprotected) 2029 first rounder (unprotected)
3 first rounds and three players for Fox: it will take at least that to convince the Kings to let go of their player. But their current situation could clearly make the trade easier, even if the front office has yet to decide whether to sell Fox as of this writing. That could quickly change if the results disappoint in the coming months. It’s up to Spurs to take advantage.
De’Aaron Fox would be a very aggressive move on the part of the Spurs, but necessary to validate a place in the playoffs. The desire is there, but negotiating with the Kings promises to be difficult. We will have more answers in early February.
