Ostracized by his family since he stepped down from his royal duties in 2019, Prince Andrew certainly is. And it’s no longer a secret. Here he has just received a little slap on the wrist again. An affront even. This time from her older sister, Princess Anne. On January 9, in her capacity as principal of Gordonstoun School where her three brothers were educated, she organized a dinner in Windsor in honor of the establishment. Around her, only a few guests. But no trace of his brother, although a former student. One more punishment for the one who, let us remember, did not attend the Christmas dinner at Sandringham last December either. So simple postal error or voluntary act?
The Daily Mail leans towards a voluntary exclusion on the part of the royal princess, entirely devoted to her brother Charles III and his directives. A sovereign who, faced with the escapades of the Duke of York, prefers that he remain under the radar rather than exposing himself in public.
Anne only seems to apply royal wishes. And yet, “I’m sure the Duke would have loved to attend the dinner if he had been invited,” a friend of Prince Andrew told the British media. Certainly, but in his capacity as a former parent and director of Gordonstoun, the daughter of Elizabeth II, preferred not to add fuel to the fire by inviting her little brother.
A difficult recovery
The Princess never personally took lessons at Gordonstoun since the place became mixed in 1972. But his children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, frequented the place during their schooling. This “punishment” of Andrew comes as Gordonstoun, like all private schools, has had to deal with the consequences of the Labor Party’s fiscal raid. The government ended the VAT exemption for private schools earlier this month, increasing the bill for many parents by 20%.
Another reason which certainly pushed Princess Anne not to invite her brother: the fact that he was at the heart of a controversy last month. Which reported that he had invited Chinese businessman Chris Yang to events at the royal residences. Yang receiving authorization from a royal aide, Dominic Hampshire, to act on behalf of the Duke in dealing with potential investors in China. The said Yang would also have played an essential role in the development of the Gordonstoun campuses in China… The school has since preferred to cut ties with a company that belonged to it after its identity was made public. An additional reason to definitively push Anne not to find Prince Andrew at her table.
