A fire broke out overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in the bedroom of a house in the center of Schaffhausen. The police were notified at 1:40 a.m. by one of the residents and the firefighters quickly intervened.
Although four of the five residents were able to take shelter before emergency services intervened, a 78-year-old woman died inside the building. Attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful. A dog was also found dead. One person was also taken to hospital for medical examinations.
The material damage is estimated at several tens of thousands of francs and an investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the disaster.
