“Bern, January 15, 2025
Madam President of the National Council, dear Maja,
I hereby inform the National Council that I will leave the Federal Council on March 31, 2025.
After more than 30 years of work in politics, more than 25 years in an executive function, the time has come for me to hand over to a person whose strength is not yet diminished.
Since my election to the Federal Council in 2018, I have had the privilege of leading the DDPS, and thus working for the population of our country. I carried out this task with respect for our institutions, with enthusiasm, as well as with my soul and conscience.

It was a period full of challenges, during which crises accumulated. The importance of security policy was highlighted.
This is why I am grateful to have been able to count on committed collaborators, and that important DDPS projects were able to be accepted by the Federal Council, Parliament and the population.
I wish you and all Members of Parliament the best for the rest of your work.
Kind regards,
Viola Amherd, Federal Councilor.”
