Oise: death in a fire of a 6-year-old boy whom his mother tried in vain to save

A six-year-old boy died Tuesday evening in a fire in an apartment in Noyon.

His mother, who tried in vain to save him, managed to get out of the house.

An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.

It is a tragedy which occurred barely a day after another fatal house fire in the Hauts-de- region, which left three dead, including two minors aged 9 and 15, in Wingles (Pas-de-France). ). Tuesday evening, a six-year-old boy died in a fire in an apartment in Noyon in Oise, AFP learned on Wednesday from the gendarmerie and the Compiègne public prosecutor’s office.

The child’s mother, aged 46, reached “to escape the building by jumping from the first floor” where the apartment is located, Compiègne prosecutor Guillaume Dupont explained by email to AFP. She had previously tried to save her son who remained in his room, he said.

The origin of the disaster would be accidental

Once out of this three-story building, the mother was taken care of by the firefighters, the commander of the Compiègne gendarmerie company Arthur told AFP.

The mother and child were alone in the apartment at the time of the disaster, which occurred after 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

An investigation, entrusted to the national gendarmerie, was “opened in search of the causes of the death” of the child, and “the first investigations are intended to determine the cause of the fire, the origin of which is unknown at this stage”according to the Compiègne prosecutor. According to another source within the gendarmerie, the origin of the disaster would be “a priori” accidental.
