The alert was given by a resident around 4:10 p.m. A four-story building located in the historic center of Annecy threatens to collapse. Faced with the risk, around fifteen firefighters from the Haute-Savoie Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 74) were dispatched to the scene.
Emergency services evacuated the 33 apartments located at 9 and 11 rue du Pâquier, a busy pedestrian street. “Several cracks appeared inside the building“, indicates the City of Annecy.
According to the first assessments carried out by the firefighters and the city services, “it is a load-bearing wall of an apartment under renovation located on the ground floor and first floor which collapsed“, explains a building expert commissioned by the City of Annecy. A design office responsible for measuring the dangerousness of the risks of collapse should go to the site this Wednesday morning.
As a precaution, a nearby business was also evacuated. A security perimeter was established around the weakened building. And traffic was cut off for almost two hours on rue du Pâquier. It has now been reopened by the authorities.
The residents of the building concerned were welcomed and taken care of by municipal services within the Bonlieu space. The mayor of Annecy François Astorg went to the victims.
