Indeed, its lead singer, Victor Willis, announced on January 13 on his Facebook page that the group had responded positively to the invitation from Donald Trump’s campaign team to “participate in inauguration activities, including the least one event with President-elect Trump.”

ALSO READ What the likes of Donald Trump say about the presidentThe one everyone knows for wearing the police uniform is the only remaining member of the original group. Mark Mussler (the construction worker), David Forrest (the cowboy), Lee Mouton (the man in leather) and Peter Whitehead joined him to form the band in 1977, thanks to the genius of two Frenchmen: l songwriter Jacques Morali and producer Henri Belolo, who produced the eponymous album recorded in 1977. Jacques Morali died in 1991 and Henri Belolo, in 2019.

If Victor Willis left the training in 1979, he resumed his American police biker helmet in 2017. He is today surrounded by Javier Perez (the Indian), James Kwong (the construction worker), Nicholas Manelic (the cowboy), James Lee (the GI), and James JJ Lippold (the man in leather). It is therefore they who will present themselves, microphone in hand, to celebrate the takeover of the 47e president of the United States. And their arrival was not a foregone conclusion.

Formal notice

Victor Willis had in fact protested as recently as 2024 against the performance of the hit “Macho Man” in Donald Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago, according to the magazine Newsweek. Also during the previous American presidential campaign, Victor Willis went to the set of Saturday Night Live asking, in song and with a lot of humor, Donald Trump to stop using the group’s titles, with a formal notice in support.

It must be said that the origin of the Village People and the possible implications in the lyrics of their songs are completely opposed to the anti-LGBT + policy of Donald Trump and his supporters. This reversal risks making some fans of the group cry out in horror.
