Manawan: drug traffickers will be expelled

The objective is to improve the security and well-being of the population.

“This result marks an important turning point in the collective fight against a scourge that has affected the safety and quality of life of members of our community for too long,” declared Chief Sipi Flamand.

According to Mr. Flamand, 346 citizens voted in favor of this new regulation; only 13 residents voted against.

The Atikamekw Council of Opitciwan was a pioneer in 2017 with the adoption of a regulation allowing it to expel drug sellers and resellers found guilty.

Although Manawan had not noticed an increase in drug trafficking on its territory, it was important to act on this phenomenon, argued Mr. Flamand.
