The Weeknd delayed the release of his album Hurry Up Tomorrow due to the fires ravaging Los Angeles County since January 7, 2025.
A series of 23 fires have hit the Californian city and surrounding areas, where thousands of buildings have been destroyed, 25 people have died and 180,000 residents have been forced to evacuate at this point.
On Instagram on January 13, The Weeknd – real name Abel Tesfaye – announced that he was delaying the release of his sixth studio album to January 31. Additionally, the 34-year-old singer decided to cancel a concert scheduled at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California on January 21.
“Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, the concert at the Rose Bowl has been canceled and the album release date has been rescheduled to January 31, 25,” he wrote, adding, “ With love, Abel.”
Fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded.
“The city has always been a deep source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone affected by this difficult time,” the artist continued. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and helping its incredible residents rebuild.” »
Hurry Up Tomorrow is the highly anticipated third installment of the Canadian superstar’s album trilogy, following After Hours in 2020 and Dawn FM in 2022. The Weeknd concert is not the only event to have been canceled in Los Angeles due to the fires. However, the music awards, Grammy Awards, were held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2.
