The team was unable to come to an agreement long-term with their coach of the last five years Mike McCarthy and the two clans decided to move on. The Cowboys had an exclusive trading window until midnight Tuesday.

The Texan team finished the last campaign with a disappointing 7-10 record and finished third in the Eastern section of the National Conference. Still, the Cowboys were ready to bring McCarthy back since the team had to deal with numerous injuries to key players.

McCarthy leaves Dallas with a respectable 49-35 record in five seasons at the helm of the Cowboys as well as three appearances in the post-season series. However, he led his team to only one playoff victory in four games.

At 61 years old, McCarthy is not expected to remain unemployed for long. According to rumors spread by numerous informants who revolve around the NFL, he would be approached to occupy the same role with the Chicago Bears or the New Saints, two teams which fired their head coach during the last season .

Last week, the Cowboys also prevented McCarthy from meeting with Bears staff for the vacant head coaching position.
