More than 900 hot meals were distributed to organizations helping homeless people on Sunday morning at Montreal Central Station by Au Coq rotisseries.
Many volunteers were present in the morning to help so that organizations including L’Itinéraire and the Mission Bon Accueil could deliver meals to people experiencing homelessness during the day.
For the Auberge du coeur Le Tournant, this is a precious help.
“For us, it’s a means of intervention with these young people,” explains philanthropic development coordinator Mélissa Ait Aïssa. It’s a way of intervening informally, since the young person is there. Yes, he eats with us, but we can ask him questions to reconnect him to try to help him.”
“It’s a meal. It may seem insignificant, but it is significant for us,” she adds.
Au Coq rotisseries hold an event like this every year, because the owners observe the phenomenon of homelessness more and more often at Montreal Central Station.
-It is also a way for volunteers to give back to their community.
“First of all, it’s a celebration, because we meet here once a year and we get together,” says a volunteer.
“It gives me the opportunity to do a little more for the less fortunate,” adds another volunteer.
