Charlie Dalin has widened the gap and should cross the finish line of the Vendée Globe in the lead next night. According to the latest estimates provided by his team this Monday morning, the Le Havre skipper should sail up the channel in the early hours of the day.
Now off the coast of Brittany, Charlie Dalin has reached his goal. With 192 miles ahead of his closest pursuer in this Vendée Globe, Yoann Richomme, victory and the record (in 65 days) are in his arms. If everything goes as planned, Le Havre will beat Armel Le Cléac’h’s time, established in 74 days 3 hours and 35 minutes during the 2016-2017 edition.
Four years after seeing victory elude him for a few hours in the previous Vendée Globe, Charlie Dalin has a comfortable lead at the head of the race this Monday morning, 200 miles from Les Sables d’Olonne. He should cross the finish line as winner of the most prestigious offshore race and solo.
The channel is about to vibrate next night
The skipper Macif Santé Prévoyance is expected during the night from Monday to Tuesday, between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., if it is not slowed down by then in its progress towards the channel, according to the latest estimates from its team. In any case, the gap between the first two overall should narrow due to the weather conditions that await the skippers as they approach Les Sables d’Olonne, with lighter winds. At the last time of 7 a.m., Charlie Dalin was sailing at a speed of 14 knots while Yoann Richomme’s pace was around 20 knots.
-In accordance with Michel Desjoyeaux’s predictions for the TelegramRichomme should cross the line almost 8 hours behind Dalin, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. according to the latest ETA. Currently off the Azores, the third, Sébastien Simon, was 934 miles behind the leader of the event this Monday morning. The sailor should complete his world tour at the end of the week, with the rest of the fleet expected next week.
