An authentic non-event in superhero cinema, the adaptation devoted to the character of Kraven the Hunter took charge of wrapping up a rather special year last December. And for good reason, the film J.C. Chandor received an extremely cold critical reception, with a laughable 17% score on RottenTomatoes for the press. Let us still note a positive glimmer in the picture: thanks to the efforts and courage of true free thinkers, of the rebels of individual action, the project still benefits from a rating of 71% on this same platform of the point in view of the opinions expressed by the few spectators who took the time to provide their opinions. You know, these are the people who think that the press has done too much, that you have to know how to appreciate when it’s fun, to put your mind to rest… all that.
Ultimately, this effort of resistance bore fruit, since Kraven the Hunter came out with a formidable performance of 60 million dollars in total during its exploitation in cinemas. That is to say less than Morbiusless than Madame Webless than The Marvels…and more generally, the most catastrophic performance in contemporary superhero cinema for a studio film. Thanks anyway.
“Broucouille”, as they say in Bouchonnois
We could ask ourselves the question of what could have been proposed Sony Pictures to enable this project to get back on track. And an element of the answer appeared recently, in this small post-mortem period: on social networks, one of the artists hired on the visual development of Kraven the Hunter published concept art that may indicate the existence of an idea that was not retained in the final script.
The artist in question, Julies Darriulatexplains that the element in question (a “environment shot“, in other words, a visual commissioned for a specific setting), comes from a sequence canceled en route. We can see in this image different corpses of symbiotes, in a topography that evokes natural Klyntarthe prison planet of this alien species in which the character of the god Fuck is imprisoned.
-To formulate the beginning of a hypothesis: we can wonder if this element was not created at the time when the film Kraven the Hunter was supposed to come out before Venom : The Last Dance. As a reminder, the project J.C. Chandor was postponed several times, and Sony Pictures finally made the decision to give priority to Eddie Brock (last October) before continuing with The requirements (in December). With this in mind, this scene could therefore have served as a post-credits sequence at the end of the adventure of Sergei Kravinoff to announce the release of Venom : The Last Dancewhile presenting at the same time Fuck and the planet of the symbiotes.
On paper, the assist would not necessarily have been very profitable: in any case, even if the film had been released first, it is likely that Kraven the Hunter wouldn’t have worked anyway. And so, probably no one would have discovered this post-credits scene… since this kind of teasers only work if people are in the room to experience them. Incidentally, the scenario of The requirements has no connection with that of Venom and vice versa. In short, a simple coincidence of timing which will once again have shriveled any hope of forming a real shared universe… and to the extent that this idea never materialized within the films themselves, it is not not very serious anyway.
We will appreciate this last gift from the former absurd cornucopia that was the film channel Sony Pictures for these many years. Wondering, once again, if the slightest project really had a captain at the helm.
